Ethical rules and ecological use of material
From the very beginning, Extremis has committed itself to respecting ethical rules during its manufacturing process. As Extremis is active in the outdoor furniture branch, respecting ecological rules when selecting wood types is extremely important but also creates huge difficulties.
The company nevertheless commits itself to taking into account all ecological factors. Great changes in temperature and humidity and durability requirements limit the choice and even exclude almost all European woods.

In its search for an appropriate wood type Extremis has discovered Robinia. Robinia, sometimes called Acacia, originates from Asia, but has also been planted in Europe since the beginning of the 17th century. It is the only type of wood grown in Europe that meets the strictest durability requirements. The Robinia tree mainly grows on sandy soils unsuitable for many other species. In the past, this wood’s availability could not always be guaranteed, but recently the situation has improved thanks to plantations in Hungary and Rumania.
The wood is very hard and presents a lot of graining. A special treatment before use can considerably diminish warping and internal tensions. This treatment, which fulfils all ecological requirements, also darkens the wood, which is an extra bonus for Extremis. The wood’s whimsical drawing and the knots will make every piece a unique product; a characteristic wood fans will certainly appreciate.
