- Designer for furniture factory Fristho, Holland (1966-1978). - Rewarded first prize and gold medal by the “Handwerk Messe München” for Twen, a collection for the young (sofa bed, wall units,tables and chairs) designed for Fristho (1968). - Started own company for industrial design, mainly working for both Dutch and Foreign furniture manufacturers (1978). Designing a.o. for: Arco, Metaform, Montis, Pastoe, Spectrum, Lande/ Artifort, Netherlands. Interlübke,Renz, Möller Design, Germany. Extremis, Belgium. - Stopped active designing (2002). - “Harmony” Pastoe- Netherlands , purchased by the Arts Council(1985). - “Wave” Renz- Germany, “Deutsche Auswahl” by Design Center Stuttgart (1985). - "Silver Interior Design Award" Rotterdam (1992). - “Soho” Montis- Netherlands, awarded “Rote Punkt” of the Design Center Nordrhein Westfalen (1998).

In 1998, Arnold Merckx collaborated with the design of Extempore range for Extremis. Extempore is the architectural range of tables, benches and chairs Arnold created for extremis. As Extempore comes in a vast variety of different possibilities any need can be satisfied.
