Design, Togetherness

The introduction of the smoking ban created a whole new phenomenon in a short time span. Smokers would troop outside and gather in the most uncomfortable places. In this changed social setting, Dirk Wynants identified a new need that he could meet as a designer. Abachus, a new offshoot of the Gargantua family, creates an ideal environment for people who want to be together for a short space of time. Its arms invite one to adopt an informal position, halfway between standing and reclining. The optional ashtray solves the problem of discarded cigarette ends.
